This book explores the impact of China's economic boom on the urban landscape of Beijing in the late 2000s. Through photographs, it showcases the demolition of apartment buildings to make way for luxury complexes with names like MOMA, SOHO, Lane Bridge (Long Island), and Home of Tycoons (where the book gets its title). These new communities, still in the planning stages, exist only in brochures, architectural models, and large vinyl posters that cover the debris from the demolished older buildings. Home of Tycoons presents a collection of photographs that capture the moment when the old city was being destroyed and the new city was being envisioned, branded, and marketed to investors.
